What do I need to bear in mind? Procedure for an X-ray examination
Please remember to bring your referral form and, if possible, any previous findings and models.
Patients are usually asked to undress the relevant part of their body, remove any jewelry, and sit or lie down on the X-ray table. They will then receive a few brief instructions on posture and breathing, after which the assistant will leave the room and take the X-ray.
The actual exposure takes only a few tenths of a second. During this time, you must not move and must follow the instructions of the X-ray assistant or doctor. Additional images may be required, but the X-ray assistant will inform you of this in good time.
The examinations are usually performed without contrast agents. No special preparation is required.
For some examinations, it is necessary to administer a contrast agent. Contrast agents create contrasts on the X-ray image. With the help of these contrast agents, hollow organs such as the gastrointestinal tract, bile ducts, or blood vessels can be highlighted more clearly and examined more effectively.
If you are allergic to any contrast agents or other substances, please inform us of this when you make your appointment so that we can switch to a different examination method if necessary.
If it has been confirmed prior to the X-ray examination that you will be given a contrast agent, you should come to the examination on an empty stomach. This means that you should not eat anything for 4 hours beforehand and should only drink moderate amounts of liquid. The reason for this is that, in rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions to iodine-containing contrast agents can cause vomiting. This is purely a precautionary measure.
